Solar panel installers have installed about 20 solar panels on two homes in southeast Texas, a home depot and a gas station, as part of a nationwide installation that the solar panel installer said could increase energy efficiency for millions of Americans.
In addition to installing panels on the homes, SolarWorld, which was acquired by SolarCity in June, said the solar panels would reduce energy consumption by 40 percent compared to typical homes and generate about 10 to 15 percent of the electricity generated by the solar system, based on data from SolarWorld’s Energy Efficiency Solutions Program.
SolarWorld has installed about 1,100 solar panels in the U.S. and Mexico since 2009, according to company officials.
SolarWorld said it plans to install more than 1,000 panels in 2016.
The solar panels are installed at Home Depot, which is owned by Home Depot and SolarWorld.
SolarCity is a California-based company that offers residential and commercial solar energy services.
The Home Depot solar panels will be installed in the first two to three months of this year, according the company.
SolarCity, based in Mountain View, Calif., is the nation’s largest installer of residential solar panels, according, and is the third-largest installer of commercial solar panels.
The company has installed more than 15,000 residential solar systems in the United States and Mexico, according.
SolarTech, based near Phoenix, is the largest solar panel manufacturer in the world and also offers residential solar energy.
SolarTech said in a statement that the installation would help offset the solar costs of the Home Depot home depot, which will have solar panels installed on a parking lot.
