Security cameras have come under fire from the likes of Samsung and Apple in recent years, with a growing number of companies opting to ditch the need for a physical display and instead relying on software built in to the hardware.
While Ubuntu’s default camera app is arguably one of the best, it is not the only one that can be used to get the job done, with Canon’s own Camera app being one of its main competitors.
This week, Canon announced a new version of its own Camera software that can now be used on a wide range of cameras, including the Samsung Galaxy S6, iPhone 6S Plus and even the Apple Watch Series 2.
“We’re pleased to announce the availability of the Canon EOS-1D XR Camera for Canon E-Series cameras,” Canon wrote on its website.
“With Canon’s new camera app for Canon cameras, users can easily and quickly take great photos with the latest version of Canon’s camera software, which includes features like auto exposure and video stabilization.”
Canon’s app for the EOS series is currently available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.
Canon said that the new Camera app will be released for iOS, Android and the web in the coming weeks.
Canon’s Camera app is a free download and available on the Canon website.
